Everyday Mathematics in Second Grade
Our students continue the Everyday Math Program in Second Grade. As in prior grades, the children use concrete modeling and collaborative learning as a pathway to abstract understanding of numerical concepts. In addition, they are exposed to multiple methods and strategies for problem solving. There are many cross- curricular applications and connections built into this program.
By the end of Second Grade the children will be exposed to the following concepts:
Even/Odd numbers
Various strategies to add and subtract
Tell time to nearest five minutes
Tell time using A.M. and P.M.
Represent and compare 3 digit numbers in expanded form
Utilize inch, half inch, yard and centimeter to measure
Demonstrate coin equivalencies
Make change
Draw picture graphs and bar graphs to represent data
Solve one and two step number stories
Use partial sum addition
Build and compare polygons
Compare and sort 3 dimensional shapes
Partion rectangles
Build equal groups and arrays
